It was a long time coming, but I finally got my Dream Theater first-time fix on Sunday night in Milwaukee at the Miller High Life Theatre.
I have been listening to their music for years and witnessed a true spectacle on stage that had my eyes glued to them, ears that drank up their sensational sounds and my heart that kept pumping to the immense power that makes Dream Theater a force to be reckoned with.
The show began with the entrance of epic musicians, guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, keyboardist Jordan Rudess and drummer Michael Mangini on a dimly lit stage where the crowd filled every square inch of the the theatre with energizing fandom of Dream Theater. Shortly thereafter, the incredible James LaBrie comes out and the band begins blasting "Untethered Angel" as the audience erupts with excitement.
Later on in the show, LaBrie made a funny comment about being in Wisconsin, land of the cheese, saying he loves his cheese... after all he is James La"Brie". I love a good joke and that one had me laughing.
This group is more than just five musicians, they are quintessential showmen. There were two acts to their show, with a small intermission, and an encore. They played effortlessly through 19 astounding songs, making their three hour show fly by so quickly and their energy limitless. I am hooked and will definitely be seeing them again, and again.
